R&B Department Clears Compassionate Appointment Pending Since 2009

In a move that underscores its focus on addressing long-pending employee welfare issues, the Andhra Pradesh government has cleared a 17-year-old compassionate appointment in the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department , bringing long-awaited relief to the family of a deceased government employee. The approval ends years of uncertainty for a family whose plea for financial support had remained unresolved due to administrative delays.

R&B Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy on Tuesday personally handed over the government appointment order to K. Lakshman Kumar at the State Secretariat. Congratulating the newly appointed employee, the minister said the government is committed to ensuring that eligible families of deceased government servants receive timely assistance through compassionate appointments and that long-pending cases are resolved on priority.

The case dates back to the death of K.V. Appa Rao , who worked as a Gang Mazdoor in the Kakinada R&B Division . After he passed away due to illness, his family applied for compassionate employment, a welfare provision that enables one eligible dependent of a deceased government employee to secure a government job. However, for reasons related to administrative and procedural delays, the application remained pending since 2009 , leaving the family waiting for nearly two decades.

The coalition government recently took up the matter for review and approved the appointment, allowing Lakshman Kumar to finally receive a government job. The decision is expected to provide the family with much-needed financial stability and bring closure to a prolonged administrative process.

Addressing the gathering, B.C. Janardhan Reddy said the government is examining all long-pending compassionate appointment cases with a humanitarian approach. He noted that the administration, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu , is determined to ensure justice for families of employees who died while in service and to expedite genuine cases that have remained unresolved for years.

The minister also recalled that the present government had assured affected families that pending compassionate appointment cases would be addressed after coming to power. He said fulfilling that commitment reflects the government's emphasis on both administrative accountability and employee welfare.

Expressing gratitude, Lakshman Kumar and his family thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy for resolving an issue that had remained pending for 17 years. They said the appointment not only fulfils a long-awaited promise but also restores financial security and hope for the family's future.
