
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, India honours scientific excellence
The Government of India has announced the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025 , the nation’s highest recognition for outstanding contributions in science, technology, and innovation. The award celebrates scientists, researchers, and innovators whose work has inspired breakthroughs and advanced knowledge across diverse fields. It also aims to encourage the next generation of researchers and strengthen India’s global standing in science and technology.
The awards are presented under four categories. Vigyan Ratna recognises lifetime achievements in science and technology, while Vigyan Shri honours distinguished contributions in any scientific field. The Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award encourages exceptional work by young scientists up to 45 years, and the Vigyan Team award recognises outstanding achievements by teams of three or more scientists working collectively.
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar covers 13 scientific domains , including Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology, and other allied fields. Nominations for 2025 were invited between October 4 and November 17, 2024, and evaluated by a panel of eminent scientific leaders, including the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, secretaries of science departments, heads of academies, and domain experts.
The awardees for 2025 include: Vigyan Ratna , Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar (Physics, Posthumous); Vigyan Shri , Dr. Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Dr. Yusuf Mohammad Seikh, Dr. K Thangaraj, Prof. Pradeep Thalappil, Prof. Aniruddha Bhalchandra Pandit, Dr. S Venkata Mohan, Prof. Mahan Mj, Shri Jayan N; Vigyan Yuva , Dr. Jagdis Gupta Kapuganti, Dr. Satendra Kumar Mangrauthia, Shri Debarka Sengupta, Dr. Deepa Agashe, Dr. Dibyendu Das, Dr. Waliur Rahaman, Prof. Arkaprava Basu, Prof. Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Prof. Shweta Prem Agrawal, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Prof. Amit Kumar Agarwal, Prof. Surhud Shrikant More, Shri Ankur Garg, Prof. Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam; and Vigyan Team , Aroma Mission CSIR (Agricultural Science).
By recognising these visionaries, the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar seeks to motivate young talent, promote research excellence, and accelerate India’s journey as a global leader in science and technology innovation. The award ceremony will be held in due course, with details shared directly with the recipients.
