Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Amrit Udyan to open for public from February 3
The Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan will be open for public viewing from February 3 to March 31, 2026 , the President’s Secretariat announced on Wednesday. Visitors can explore the garden six days a week between 10 am and 6 pm , with the last entry permitted at 5.15 pm. The garden will remain closed on Mondays for maintenance and on March 4 due to Holi , according to an official statement.
Amrit Udyan, meaning “ nectar garden ”, is the collective name for the historic gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Earlier known as the Mughal Gardens , it was renamed in 2023 to reflect India’s cultural heritage and spirit of renewal. Designed in the early 20th century by British architect Edwin Lutyens , the garden blends Mughal landscaping traditions with British formal design. Its symmetrical layout, terraced lawns, flowing water channels and geometric flower beds create a visually striking and serene environment.
Spread across nearly 15 acres, Amrit Udyan is renowned for its rich botanical diversity and seasonal floral displays. The garden showcases more than 150 varieties of roses along with tulips, lilies, daffodils and other seasonal flowers that bloom during the spring months. It also features heritage trees, bonsai collections and medicinal plant sections, while its green spaces support birds and butterflies, adding to its natural charm.
Over the years, the garden has evolved into an inclusive and educational space. Facilities such as herbal gardens, tactile areas for visually impaired visitors and wellness oriented sections have been developed, enhancing its public appeal. Today, Amrit Udyan stands as a symbol of India’s horticultural legacy and offers a peaceful retreat within the President’s Estate.
Entry to the garden is free of cost, with bookings available online through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan portal. Walk in visitors can also register at self service kiosks near the entry point. Entry and exit for all visitors will be through gate number 35 of the President’s Estate, located near the junction of North Avenue and Rashtrapati Bhavan. To ease travel, a shuttle bus service from the Central Secretariat metro station to gate number 35 will operate every 30 minutes between 9.30 am and 6 pm.
