A rare winter weather event is expected to hit parts of Rajasthan this week, as the state braces for rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across its desert and semi-arid regions. The state meteorological department has issued forecasts indicating the impact of a fresh western disturbance.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s Jaipur Regional Office, parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions , along with the Shekhawati region , may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on January 22. On the following day, January 23, similar weather conditions are expected to affect Bikaner, Shekhawati, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Bharatpur divisions.

Rajasthan is expected to see mainly dry conditions on January 24 and 25, although minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2-4°C , creating chances of dense fog in isolated areas , the department added.

Recent temperature readings reflect the cold spell gripping the state: Pali recorded a low of 4.6°C, Fatehpur 5.2°C, Sirohi 5.6°C, Karauli 6.1°C, Alwar 7°C, and Bikaner 7.1°C. The state capital, Jaipur, recorded a comparatively warmer 12.7°C .

Officials also noted that another western disturbance is likely to become active next week, which may further influence weather patterns in Rajasthan. Such disturbances bringing rain to desert regions are relatively rare, highlighting an unusual shift in the region’s winter weather.

Residents in affected districts are advised to take precautionary measures, particularly against lightning and fog-related visibility issues.
