I n a rare sighting during the festival of Nagula Chavithi, devotees at the Sri Vishwanatha Swamy Temple near Cherlopalli railway gate in Manubolu (Sarvepalli constituency, Nellore district) reported seeing two cobras, including a rare white cobra ( Shweta Nagu ).

Nagula Chavithi is a traditional festival observed in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, dedicated to the worship of snakes, particularly cobras. The festival is considered highly auspicious, and snake sightings during this period are culturally viewed as a blessing by devotees.

White cobras are extremely rare, often due to leucism or albinism, making such sightings noteworthy. While there is no scientific link between the festival and cobra appearances, locals considered the event a divine spectacle.

Temple authorities and nearby residents ensured that the snakes were observed safely, urging devotees to maintain caution and respect during the encounter. The sighting drew attention from devotees and villagers, who gathered to witness the rare phenomenon.

Experts note that while sightings of white cobras are exceptional, they are possible in natural habitats of cobras in Andhra Pradesh, which include forested areas and temple surroundings.

The temple’s location Sri Vishwanatha Swamy Temple, near Cherlopalli railway gate, Manubolu Mandal, Sarvepalli constituency, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh is easily accessible, and the festival continues to attract devotees annually, especially those hoping to witness such rare occurrences.
