Ranveer Singh, Rohit Shetty receive threat, Mumbai Police launch probe

Fresh threats against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and filmmaker Rohit Shetty have prompted Mumbai Police to intensify security and widen their investigation, as concerns grow over a pattern of intimidation targeting public figures.

On Friday, an audio clip surfaced on social media in which a person identifying himself as “Harry Boxer”, allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang , issued threats against both Singh and Shetty. Police officials confirmed that cyber and crime branch teams are analysing the clip to determine its origin and authenticity, including whether the voice was artificially generated using AI tools .

For Ranveer Singh, this is not an isolated episode. Earlier this week, his manager reportedly received a threat message via WhatsApp , which is currently under investigation. In the latest audio message, the caller allegedly warned of severe consequences and claimed to possess detailed information about the actor’s staff and their daily movements. However, police sources said no specific monetary demand or extortion amount has been mentioned so far. The tone of the message appeared aimed more at intimidation than financial gain.

Rohit Shetty’s case adds a more alarming dimension. Earlier this month, five rounds were fired at his multi storey residence in Mumbai by unidentified assailants. While no injuries were reported, the firing triggered a major security review . Investigators are examining whether the recent audio threat and the firing incident are connected.

In the viral clip, the caller also claimed responsibility for a firing incident at a shop in Marina Grande in Portugal , along with an associate named Sunil Meena. These claims are being independently verified by authorities.

Mumbai Police have enhanced security cover for both Singh and Shetty. Though Singh has not filed a fresh complaint regarding the latest audio threat, officials said preventive measures have already been taken . Surveillance has been stepped up, digital footprints are being traced, and teams are coordinating with cyber experts to track the source of the message.

Authorities suspect that similar threatening communications may have been sent to others across the country. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials assuring strict action against those responsible .
