Ranveer Singh Begins 'Pralay' Shoot in Mumbai, Kalyani Priyadarshan Makes Bollywood Debut
Ranveer Singh has officially begun filming 'Pralay', an ambitious post-apocalyptic survival thriller directed by Jai Mehta. Principal photography started on August 16, 2026, with the team shooting at live locations in and around Mumbai.
Set in a near-future Mumbai devastated by a deadly pandemic and a subsequent zombie outbreak, the film follows a survival story unfolding in a city thrown into chaos. The project is being mounted on a large scale, with the makers opting for real locations to bring greater authenticity to its dystopian world.
'Pralay' comes after Ranveer's successful 'Dhurandhar' duology and represents another major action-oriented project for the actor. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the beginning of filming, describing it as Ranveer's "ambitious new survival spectacle."
The film also marks a significant milestone for Kalyani Priyadarshan, who stars opposite Ranveer in a pivotal role and is set to make her Bollywood debut with the project. The actress recently reacted to the production announcement, expressing her excitement about making a film she hopes the team will be proud of.
Director Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta, previously co-directed the acclaimed series 'Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story' and later helmed 'Lootere'. 'Pralay' marks his move into large-scale theatrical filmmaking.
Producer Hansal Mehta has described 'Pralay' as an original story that has been developed on an ambitious scale. He said Jai had been working on the concept for a long time before Ranveer came on board. The film is written by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor and is not based on José Saramago's novel Blindness, despite earlier speculation.
The project is backed by Ananya Birla's Birla Studios, Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal's True Story Films, and Ranveer Singh's Maa Kasam Films. Singh is also making his producer debut with the project.
With its zombie-apocalypse premise, large-scale survival drama and Mumbai setting, 'Pralay' is shaping up as one of Ranveer Singh's most distinctive upcoming projects.
