
Rangasamy Set for Fifth Term as Puducherry CM After President Murmu’s Appointment
President of India Droupadi Murmu has appointed N Rangasamy as the Chief Minister of Puducherry , formally paving the way for a new government in the Union Territory.
As per a Ministry of Home Affairs notification , the President has approved his appointment with effect from the day he is sworn in. Following this, Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan has invited Rangasamy to form the government , marking the official transition of power.
Rangasamy is scheduled to take oath as Chief Minister on May 13 , and this will be his fifth term in office , highlighting his continued political dominance in Puducherry.
The development comes after the National Democratic Alliance secured a clear majority in the Assembly elections held on April 9, with results declared on May 4. The alliance’s performance ensured a smooth path for government formation.
In the 30 member Assembly, the All India NR Congress emerged strong, winning 12 of the 16 seats it contested. The Bharatiya Janata Party secured 4 seats, while allies including the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and LJK won one seat each, taking the NDA tally to 18 seats . Three nominated members will also be part of the House.
On the opposition side, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won five seats, the Congress secured one, while the emerging TVK won two seats.
With the formal appointment completed and swearing-in date announced, Puducherry is set for a continuity-driven leadership under Rangasamy’s return as Chief Minister.
