Ranchi Clash: Three FIRs Filed Against 14 Named, 200+ Unidentified Job Aspirants

At least three FIRs have been registered against 14 named and more than 200 unidentified persons following a clash between police and job aspirants during a protest in Ranchi, an official said on Saturday.

The FIRs were lodged at the Kotwali police station in connection with Friday’s confrontation, which erupted during a demonstration against alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations. Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said the cases were registered against the protesters in connection with the clash.

According to officials, one of the three FIRs was filed by police against alleged miscreants for obstructing government duty and violating the route-chart norms prescribed for the protest. The other two cases were filed by two individuals, officials said.

The confrontation occurred when students affiliated with the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch were protesting against what they described as irregularities and alleged manipulation in several recruitment examinations. The protesters reportedly attempted to burn effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, following which a scuffle broke out between the demonstrators and police.

Student leaders have accused the state government of “deceiving” and “betraying” job aspirants, particularly after recent judicial developments concerning recruitment cancellations. The protests came amid a series of orders by the Jharkhand High Court concerning appointments and examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

On Friday, the High Court stayed notifications cancelling the appointments of Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and candidates recruited through the JSSC-CGL examination.

A day earlier, the court had stayed notifications cancelling the 11th and 13th JPSC examinations and also stayed an order cancelling the appointments of food safety officers.

The latest FIRs are likely to intensify tensions between the protesting aspirants and the state authorities, as student groups continue to demand clarity and corrective action over the recruitment process.
