Ranbir Kapoor Gets Conjunctivitis Ahead of Ramayana Trailer Launch, Won't Miss SDCC

The excitement surrounding Ramayana continues to soar, but the film's global promotional campaign has taken an unexpected turn. Lead star Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly been diagnosed with conjunctivitis just days before the film's grand trailer launch at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) . Despite the eye infection, the actor is expected to travel to the United States and will not skip the landmark event, where the film is set to make its worldwide debut.

The much awaited trailer of Ramayana will premiere at SDCC on July 23 , marking one of the biggest international launches ever for an Indian film. Producer Namit Malhotra , director Nitesh Tiwari , and stars Ranbir Kapoor and Yash will attend the event in person. Although Sai Pallavi , who plays Sita, will not be present, fans can expect exclusive footage, live performances, behind the scenes stories, and special giveaways.

The presentation has secured Ballroom 20 , SDCC's second largest venue with a seating capacity of nearly 4,800 people . Scheduled for 3:15 PM PDT (3:15 AM IST on July 24) , the showcase reflects the makers' ambition to position Ramayana as a global cinematic spectacle. Ahead of the international unveiling, the team is also set to hold a grand trailer launch event in New Delhi on July 18 , making it a two phase promotional campaign.

Adding to the anticipation, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has awarded the trailer a 'U' certificate , approving two versions of the promo. One runs for 4 minutes and 15 seconds , while a trimmed 4 minute version has also been cleared for theatrical and digital exhibition.

Interestingly, Ramayana has also received its first international classification. A 34 minute footage presentation screened for the Australian Classification Board has been awarded an 'M' rating , with the board stating that it is "not recommended for children under 15 years" due to moderate violence . Unlike India's universal certification for the trailer, Australia's classification is advisory and signals the film's intense action sequences and darker storytelling.

The makers are also engaging audiences through initiatives such as the 'Colours of Ramayana' contest for school students and a special 3D trailer screening , further building excitement before the SDCC premiere.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari , Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama , Yash as Ravana , Sai Pallavi as Sita , Sunny Deol as Hanuman , and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman . The film also marks the first collaboration between Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman , who are composing the music together. Backed by Prime Focus Studios, Monster Mind Creations, DNEG, and Atlas Entertainment, the epic is slated for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release.
