A driver was killed in a road accident on the Nainital National Highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district on Sunday after a husk-loaded truck overturned onto his vehicle, police said.

The incident occurred near Pahadi Gate in the jurisdiction of the Ganj police station. According to officials, the truck lost control while moving along the busy highway and toppled onto a Bolero travelling alongside it. The force of the impact crushed the Bolero, killing its driver on the spot.

Police noted that the words “Uttar Pradesh Government” were written on the Bolero, though officials said the ownership of the vehicle was still being verified.

Superintendent of Police Vidyasagar Mishra reached the accident site along with teams from nearby police stations soon after receiving information. Rescue teams used a JCB machine to retrieve the body from the mangled vehicle. After completing legal procedures, the body was sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.

Addressing the media, SP Mishra said rescue and relief operations were launched immediately and confirmed that only one person was present in the Bolero at the time of the accident. He added that no other individuals were found trapped under the truck or the spilled husk.

The accident led to traffic disruption on the highway, prompting the deployment of police personnel and fire service vehicles to clear the road and regulate vehicular movement. Officials also initiated efforts to inform the deceased driver’s family using contact details recovered from the scene.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and to verify details related to the vehicle involved.
