Rampur 1943 Virasat debuts: A new milestone in Indian heritage spirits
Radico Khaitan Limited, one of India’s most revered and pioneering distillers, has announced the launch of its latest creation Rampur 1943 Virasat, a heritage-driven spirit that embodies more than eight decades of craftsmanship. Rooted in the legacy of the historic Rampur Distillery established in 1943, the new release brings tradition and modern innovation together in an exceptional expression of Indian distilling artistry.
Crafted at the foothills of the Himalayas, Rampur 1943 Virasat is a tribute to both place and heritage. Made from carefully chosen six-row Indian barley known for richness and bold character, the spirit is distilled using newly designed pot stills that preserve Rampur’s distinctive DNA while refining it for a contemporary palate.
The whisky undergoes a two-stage maturation: first in American Bourbon Barrels and then in Ruby Port Pipes. This elevates its depth and complexity, further intensified by Rampur’s extreme climate from searing 45°C summers to icy 2°C winters. These dramatic variations accelerate aging, producing remarkable richness and maturity.
The spirit matures through India’s powerful seasons, monsoons that soften, summers that deepen, and winters that refine each contributing a new layer to its evolving character. Rampur 1943 Virasat stands as a testament to time, patience, and legacy.
The new whisky opens with sweet vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak before transitioning into tropical richness. Notes of red berries, stewed fruits, and silky spices follow, culminating in a lingering sweetness imparted by the Ruby Port Pipe finish. The result is a full-bodied spirit that reflects nature’s influence and human craftsmanship in perfect harmony.
Speaking on the unveiling, Mr. Abhishek Khaitan, Managing Director, Radico Khaitan, said: “Rampur 1943 Virasat represents the timeless heritage of our distillery and the enduring passion that defines Indian spirit craftsmanship. It pays tribute to our journey since 1943 while inviting spirit lovers to experience India’s heritage in every sip.”
Adding to this, Mr. Amar Sinha, Chief Operating Officer, noted: “With Rampur 1943 Virasat, we wanted to make the artistry of Indian heritage spirits accessible to a broader audience. Every element from barley to barrel reflects our commitment to quality and innovation.”
Priced between ₹3,500 and ₹4,500, Rampur 1943 Virasat will debut across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi, with a phased expansion planned nationwide.
With this launch, Radico Khaitan reinforces its position as a leader in India’s premium spirits landscape, celebrating the nation’s distilling heritage while ushering in a new era of craftsmanship through Rampur 1943 Virasat.
