Ramchander Rao Fires Back at Owaisi’s Remarks
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday criticized AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for advocating separate leadership for Muslims. He said India’s democratic system already ensures equal representation to all communities and rejected the idea of leadership based on religion.
Referring to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks, Rao argued that the Congress party itself acknowledges strong Muslim representation within its ranks, questioning the need for exclusive leadership. He added that the BJP works beyond caste and religion, focusing on the welfare of Dalits , tribals , and backward classes .
Owaisi, speaking at a rally in Gujarat, had earlier blamed senior Congress leaders for the 1947 Partition . Reacting to this, Rao alleged that such statements were politically motivated.
The exchange comes amid rising political tensions ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections . Owaisi also hit back at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress for labeling AIMIM as the BJP’s “B-team.” In the 2021 elections, TMC won 213 seats , while the BJP secured 77 , and Congress and Left parties failed to win any seats.
With AIMIM entering the two-phase polls on April 23 and 29 , the contest for minority votes is expected to intensify.
