Ramayana Trailer Finally Gets a Release Date as Karan Johar's Dharma Productions Joins Ranbir Kapoor's Epic
The buzz surrounding Ramayana has reached an all time high, and the makers have now delivered two massive updates that have sent excitement soaring among movie lovers. With Ranbir Kapoor leading one of the most ambitious cinematic projects ever attempted in India, the mythological epic is preparing for a spectacular promotional campaign ahead of its grand theatrical release.
The biggest development is that Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has officially acquired the all India theatrical distribution rights for Ramayana: Part 1 in what is being described as one of Bollywood's biggest distribution deals. According to reports, the agreement is valued at around Rs. 250 crore , underlining the enormous confidence the industry has in the film's box office potential. The partnership brings together Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios , Yash's Monster Mind Creations , and Dharma Productions for the nationwide release.
The second major update is one fans have been eagerly waiting for. The film's first full trailer is reportedly scheduled to arrive on July 18, 2026 after creating huge buzz with its exclusive presentation at CinemaCon earlier this year. Industry insiders also suggest the trailer launch could be tied to a grand international promotional event as the makers push the film onto the global stage, although an official announcement on the launch event is still awaited.
Headlined by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the film features an ensemble cast that has already become one of its biggest attractions. Yash steps into the powerful role of Ravana while also co producing the project. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, Ravie Dubey appears as Lakshmana, while veteran actor Arun Govil , remembered by generations as television's Lord Rama, portrays King Dasharatha. The film also features Lara Dutta , Kajal Aggarwal , Rakul Preet Singh , Kunal Kapoor , and several other prominent actors in pivotal roles.
Mounted on a reported combined budget of over Rs. 4,000 crore for its two part saga, Ramayana is among the costliest films ever produced in Indian cinema. The project is being created for IMAX and Dolby Cinema , with Oscar winning VFX powerhouse DNEG handling its groundbreaking visual effects. Adding even more global appeal, legendary composer Hans Zimmer is crafting the background score alongside A. R. Rahman , who is composing the songs.
The makers have also been actively protecting the film from leaks after an alleged CinemaCon clip surfaced online recently, clarifying that parts of the viral footage were AI generated and initiating swift takedown measures. The move reflects the scale of anticipation surrounding the film, with every glimpse quickly becoming a social media sensation.
