Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana is reportedly preparing for its biggest international move yet, with the makers planning an ambitious release in China , a market that once transformed Bollywood films into global blockbusters. If the plan goes ahead, the mythological epic could become one of the first major Hindi films in years to make a significant return to the world's second largest theatrical market.

According to an exclusive Mid-day report, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra are in discussions with Chinese exhibitors and distributors for a large-scale promotional campaign. The proposed four day tour will reportedly be led by Ranbir Kapoor , Yash , and Sai Pallavi , with a tentative itinerary that includes a press event and a special screening at the Pingyao International Film Festival on September 24 . The team is then expected to embark on a multi-city promotional tour during China's Golden Week , beginning October 1 , one of the country's busiest moviegoing holidays.

The reported China strategy comes as Ramayana continues to position itself as a truly global cinematic event. The film is already expanding its international footprint with a presentation at San Diego Comic Con 2026 , underscoring the makers' ambition to introduce the Indian epic to worldwide audiences. Reports have also suggested that the film's next major promotional campaign, including its trailer rollout, is designed with international audiences in mind.

The move also brings an interesting connection full circle. Nitesh Tiwari directed Dangal , the film that rewrote history in China by becoming the highest grossing Indian film ever in the country and the biggest Indian blockbuster worldwide. Chinese audiences have previously embraced films like Secret Superstar , 3 Idiots , Hindi Medium , Andhadhun , and Bajrangi Bhaijaan , proving that emotionally driven Indian stories can find extraordinary success beyond home turf. With Ramayana rooted in one of India's most celebrated epics, the makers appear keen to recreate that magic on an even larger scale.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari , the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Backed by Prime Focus Studios , Monster Mind Creations , and Atlas Entertainment , the two part saga features music by A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer , marking Zimmer's first original score for an Indian film. The visual effects are being handled by Oscar winning VFX studio DNEG , further reinforcing the film's global ambitions.

The first installment of Ramayana is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026 , with the second part arriving in 2027 . While the China release plans are yet to receive an official confirmation from the makers, the reported discussions have already generated excitement among fans, who believe the epic has the scale, spectacle, and emotional appeal to become Bollywood's next international phenomenon.
