Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘ Ramayana: Part One ’ has made a grand debut at the global box office, collecting ₹155 crore in worldwide gross on its opening day, according to the makers. Despite the impressive start, the film has fallen short of the opening-day record set by Prabhas-starrer ‘ Adipurush ’ in 2023.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, the much-anticipated mythological spectacle arrived in theatres worldwide on November 5.

The makers have described the opening as the biggest pre-Diwali Day 1 collection in Indian cinema, attributing the strong numbers to audience interest and packed theatres from early morning shows. The festive period, traditionally affected by travel and preparations, did little to dampen the film’s opening-day momentum.

However, the domestic box-office figures present a more detailed picture. The film is estimated to have collected around ₹64.85 crore net in India, with its domestic gross standing at approximately ₹77.50 crore. Hindi contributed the largest share, followed by Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Despite its massive worldwide opening, ‘Ramayana’ could not surpass ‘Adipurush’, which recorded an estimated ₹86.75 crore net collection in India on its opening day in 2023.

The film is the first instalment of a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Hindu epic, produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. With a highly anticipated second instalment planned, the film’s performance over the coming days will be crucial in determining whether its strong opening translates into a sustained box-office run.
