Anticipation is mounting around filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of the epic Ramayana , as the makers prepare to unveil key character looks on April 2, coinciding with the festival of Hanuman Jayanti.

The big-budget production, mounted on a reported ₹4,000 crore scale, features a high-profile ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram , Yash portraying Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita . Veteran actor Sunny Deol steps into the role of Hanuman, while Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman.

The April 2 reveal, centered on the character of Ram, is expected to offer audiences their first glimpse of the actors in full costume, marking the beginning of an extensive seven-month promotional campaign leading up to the release of Part 1 during Diwali 2026.

The project is being filmed for IMAX screens and is positioned as one of Indian cinema’s most technologically ambitious ventures. Its music is being composed by internationally acclaimed Hans Zimmer alongside Oscar-winning Indian composer A. R. Rahman, further elevating expectations.

Early test screenings have reportedly drawn strong reactions, with viewers praising the scale and immersive 3D visuals, drawing comparisons to global spectacles such as Avatar. However, some fans have expressed a desire for a more focused spotlight on Kapoor’s portrayal of Ram in the initial promotional material.

With its scale, cast, and technical ambition, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Indian film releases in recent years.
