Ramachander Rao Seeks Congress Clarity on ‘Regime Change’ Remarks

Telangana BJP president N. Ramachander Rao on Friday demanded that the Congress clarify its stand on alleged calls for a change of government in India, reportedly inspired by the political developments in Bangladesh. He warned against attempts to bring about a change of power by creating unrest and violence, insisting that governments in India must change only through democratic means.

Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Rao criticised advocate Prashant Bhushan, Neha Bora of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), and CJP leader Abhijit Deepke over their alleged remarks advocating regime change. He questioned whether the Congress supported those seeking to replicate Bangladesh’s developments in India to bring about a change in government.

Rao said India, as the world’s largest democracy, had established constitutional mechanisms for electing governments and transferring power. He maintained that any attempt to use violence or instability to achieve political objectives was unacceptable and asked the Congress to publicly distance itself from such alleged calls.

He also accused Prashant Bhushan of having adopted what he described as an anti-national position on Jammu and Kashmir in the past. Rao alleged that certain forces were conspiring to create unrest in the country under the banner of regime change and demanded that the Congress explain its position on their activities.

The BJP leader further alleged that the Congress and what he termed “urban Naxals” were attempting to undermine constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission of India and the Supreme Court. He claimed that the Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was joining hands with forces hostile to the country because it could not come to power through democratic elections.

Rao described the alleged association with anti-national elements as shameful for a party that frequently highlights its contribution to India’s freedom struggle. He reiterated that the Congress must clarify whether it supported the reported calls for regime change and reaffirm its commitment to India’s democratic and constitutional framework.
