Rajya Sabha cancels March 19–20 sittings, reschedules for March 28–29

The Rajya Sabha will hold sittings on the weekend of March 28 and 29 after the government agreed to cancel the scheduled sessions on March 19 and 20 due to upcoming festivals, Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan informed members on Monday.

The decision follows a request made by several members during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held on March 11, 2026. Members had pointed out that several festivals, including Navaratri, Gudi Padwa and the holy month of Ramadan, begin around March 19, making it inconvenient for the House to conduct sittings on those dates.

Announcing the decision, the Chairman said the government had favourably considered the request. As a result, the sittings scheduled for Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, have been cancelled.

To compensate for the lost working hours, the Upper House of Parliament will instead meet on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, he said, asking members to take note of the revised schedule.

There was, however, no immediate announcement regarding the schedule of the Lok Sabha, and it remains unclear whether similar changes will be made to its sittings.
