Rajya Sabha bids farewell to former CJI Ranjan Gogoi

The Rajya Sabha on Monday bid farewell to former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, who completed his six-year tenure as a nominated member of the Upper House.

Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan lauded Gogoi’s contributions to parliamentary deliberations, describing him as a distinguished jurist who brought exceptional legal insight and experience to the proceedings of the House.

Speaking during the farewell remarks, the chairman said Gogoi’s interventions in debates reflected a deep understanding of the legislative process and a strong commitment to public interest. He noted that the House benefitted from Gogoi’s measured observations, thoughtful counsel and the sense of gravitas he brought to discussions.

“The House will certainly miss his voice , counsel and balanced interventions,” Radhakrishnan said, acknowledging Gogoi’s role in enriching parliamentary discourse through his legal expertise and practical understanding of governance.

On behalf of all members, the chairman extended his best wishes to Gogoi for the future. He expressed hope that the former Chief Justice would continue to serve the nation in different capacities with the same dedication, integrity and spirit of public service that marked his long and distinguished career in the judiciary and public life.

Gogoi, who served as the 46th Chief Justice of India before his retirement from the judiciary, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in March 2020 . During his tenure in the Upper House, he participated in debates and legislative discussions, drawing upon his extensive experience in constitutional and legal matters.
