Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan reunite on screen after 46 years for special promo shoot
Tamil cinema’s two biggest icons, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan , have reportedly reunited on screen after a gap of 46 years, sparking massive excitement among fans and industry insiders. According to reports, the legendary actors shot a special promotional video on Saturday morning at Prasad Studios, Chennai.
The promo is said to have been directed by Nelson Dilipkumar , best known for the blockbuster Jailer , with renowned cinematographer Rajiv Menon handling the visuals. The shoot reportedly took place in a quirky mechanic-garage setup , stylistically similar to the Jailer teaser, and was designed as a fun, high-energy clip rather than a regular film sequence.
Adding to the novelty, director Nelson Dilipkumar and music composer Anirudh Ravichander are said to appear in cameo roles as makeup artists , lending a humorous touch to the promo.
Industry buzz suggests that the clip is linked to a rumoured dark comedy project , possibly connected to upcoming films tentatively referred to as Thalaivar 174 or KH 238 both of which are working titles commonly used before official announcements. However, the makers and the actors’ teams have not yet issued any formal confirmation regarding the project or its title.
Sources indicate that while the promo shoot has been completed, principal photography for the film is expected only in 2027 , suggesting that the video serves primarily as a hype-building exercise or an early indication of a future collaboration.
Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan last shared screen space in the late 1970s, with Ninaithale Inikkum (1979) being their most remembered collaboration. Their reported reunion, even in promotional form, is being viewed as a historic moment for Tamil cinema.
Until an official announcement is made, details regarding the film’s title, cast, and release timeline remain under wraps, but the reunion alone has already generated unprecedented buzz across social media and film circles.
