Rajasthan’s Sahil Sets New 1,000m Mark as Youth Athletics Championships Heat Up

Rajasthan’s Sahil produced a superb tactical run to rewrite the meet record in the boys’ 1,000m on the penultimate day of the 21st National Youth Athletics Championships here on Wednesday.

Sahil timed 2:25.25 to clinch the gold and better the previous championship record of 2:26.04, set by Suraj Singh in Patna last year.

The race turned into a high-quality contest, with Haryana’s Dev also finishing inside the old record mark. Dev clocked 2:25.59 to take the silver, while Madhya Pradesh’s Ranglal D secured bronze in 2:26.83.

The boys’ U18 400m title went to Telangana’s Lodenge Ramu, who stopped the clock at 47.21 seconds. Maharashtra’s Manas Shinde was second in 47.92, followed by Kerala’s Ebin KJ in 48.05.

In the boys’ 5,000m race walk, Uttar Pradesh’s Vishnu claimed top honours in 21:02.81, ahead of Punjab’s Prabhjot Singh and Delhi’s Aditya Dangi. Haryana’s Dheeraj Sahu won the discus throw with a 55.85m effort, while Madhya Pradesh’s Nagar Singh Kanesh topped the heptathlon with 4,812 points.

The girls’ U18 400m title went to Punjab’s Shenoor Bawa, who clocked 54.13 seconds. Karnataka’s Nagini won the 1,000m in 2:54.25, narrowly ahead of Haryana’s Hunny Malik and Rajasthan’s Deepika.

Haryana’s Prachi Bishnoi emerged victorious in the girls’ 3,000m race walk with a time of 14:01.53, edging Madhya Pradesh’s Ranjana Yadav by just 0.26 seconds.

With several close finishes and standout performances, the championships are heading towards an exciting finale in Ludhiana.
