Rajasthan continues to reel under an intense heatwave as temperatures surged dangerously close to the 47 degree Celsius mark across several districts, turning daily life increasingly difficult for residents battling the relentless summer spell.

According to the Meteorological Department, western parts of the state witnessed some of the harshest conditions of the season on Sunday, with Sri Ganganagar emerging as the hottest place at 46 degrees Celsius . Several other cities also recorded blistering temperatures, including Vanasthali at 45.1 degrees , Churu at 45 degrees , while Kota, Phalodi and Bikaner hovered around 44.8 to 44.9 degrees Celsius . Even Jaipur remained under severe heat stress with the mercury touching 43.6 degrees Celsius .

The rising temperatures, coupled with dry winds sweeping through the state, have intensified discomfort across both urban and rural regions. Streets in many cities appeared deserted during peak afternoon hours as people preferred to remain indoors to escape the scorching conditions.

The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued a heatwave alert , warning that dry weather is likely to continue over most parts of Rajasthan for the next three to four days. Officials have also predicted dust-laden winds blowing at speeds of 20 to 30 kilometres per hour , which could further worsen conditions.

Weather experts cautioned that temperatures may rise by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. On May 26 and 27 , isolated pockets of western Rajasthan are expected to witness severe heatwave conditions , with maximum temperatures potentially climbing to 46 to 47 degrees Celsius .

However, there appears to be some relief on the horizon. Meteorologists say a fresh western disturbance is likely to become active around May 28 and 29 , bringing the possibility of strong thunderstorms, gusty winds reaching 50 to 60 kmph, and light rainfall in several parts of the state.

The anticipated weather system is expected to lower daytime temperatures by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius , offering temporary respite from the prolonged heat spell. Officials further indicated that thunderstorm and rainfall activity may continue into the first week of June , raising hopes of intermittent relief for residents struggling through one of the season’s harshest phases.
