Rajasthan Reels Under Intense Heatwave as Temperatures Soar Toward 47°C

Rajasthan is in the grip of a severe heatwave , with temperatures rising sharply across several parts of the state and conditions expected to intensify further in the coming days.

In western Rajasthan, daytime temperatures are consistently hovering between 45°C and 46°C , making conditions extremely harsh during peak afternoon hours. The situation has been particularly severe in Jaisalmer , which recorded a maximum of 45.9°C in the past 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department .

The Meteorological Centre, Jaipur has issued a heatwave alert, warning that dry weather is likely to persist across most parts of the state for the next three to four days. Officials also cautioned that dust laden winds with speeds of 20 to 30 kmph may continue, adding to the discomfort and reducing visibility in some regions.

Weather experts have indicated that temperatures could rise further by 2°C to 3°C , pushing the mercury even higher across western districts. The most severe phase is expected on May 26 and 27 , when parts of western Rajasthan may experience maximum temperatures reaching 46°C to 47°C , with isolated areas likely to face severe heatwave conditions .

Relief, however, is expected later in the month. A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the region around May 28 and 29 , bringing possibilities of thunderstorms , strong winds reaching 50 to 60 kmph, and light rainfall in some areas. This change in weather may help bring down temperatures by 2°C to 3°C .

Officials added that intermittent thunderstorm and rainfall activity could continue into the first week of June, offering temporary relief from the ongoing intense heat affecting large parts of the state.
