Rajasthan Local Body Polls: BJP Wins 28 Chairperson Posts Unopposed

Chairpersons of 32 urban local bodies in Rajasthan have been elected unopposed, with BJP candidates securing the majority of the posts, the State Election Commission said on Friday.

According to the commission, BJP candidates were elected to 28 chairperson posts, while Congress and Independent candidates won two posts each without facing a contest.

The election process for chairpersons is currently underway across 309 urban local bodies in the state. The elections are part of a larger exercise to elect representatives to various urban local body positions, including municipal corporations, municipalities and other local bodies.

The State Election Commission has scheduled elections for mayors, chairpersons and presidents in 305 urban local bodies on September 21. The exercise will cover seven municipal corporations along with other urban local bodies across Rajasthan.

Voting for the second tier of posts will take place the following day. Deputy mayors, vice-chairpersons and vice-presidents will be elected on September 22, according to the election schedule.

The commission has also announced a separate round of elections for key posts in three major municipal corporations and one municipality. Elections for the mayor and deputy mayor posts in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations will be held on September 25.

On the same day, elections will also be conducted for the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts in Suket municipality in Kota, the commission said.

The unopposed election of 32 chairpersons marks the first phase of the ongoing local body election process, with contests for several other posts scheduled over the coming days.

The Rajasthan local body elections are being conducted under the supervision of the State Election Commission, which has issued the schedule for the various posts and stages of the electoral process.
