Rajasthan hosts endurance cycling festival

The Thar desert is set for an adrenaline-packed spectacle as Rajasthan hosts the inaugural Tour de Thar on November 23. Over 2,500 cyclists from India and abroad will race across the desert in three grueling categories: a 300 km relay, 200 km, and 100 km races while spectators enjoy music, dance, and local handicraft displays, making the event a vibrant desert festival.

The race will start at Norangdesar village in Bikaner and traverse the smooth stretches of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway, challenging participants’ stamina, strength, and mental endurance. Cyclists will compete under extreme desert conditions, testing their ability to maintain speed and focus over long distances.

A curtain-raiser held in Delhi, attended by Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, highlighted the dual purpose of the event showcasing world-class cycling talent while promoting Rajasthan’s rich culture and tourism potential.

"With Tour de Thar, Rajasthan is set to host an international-level endurance cycling event that blends sports, culture, and the unique spirit of the desert," the ministry said.

The event promises not just fierce competition but also a celebration of the state’s unique heritage and the determination of athletes pushing their limits in one of the world’s most iconic deserts.
