Rajasthan Governor urges revival of Ancient Indian Knowledge to boost students’ intellectual growth

Rajasthan Governor Hari Bhau Bagde on Friday emphasized the importance of drawing upon India’s ancient knowledge traditions to enhance the intellectual abilities of students, during a review meeting at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology in Udaipur.

Addressing officials, deans, and heads of departments, Bagde stressed that the country’s rich heritage of scholarship and science, preserved in texts by sages such as Bharadwaj, should be incorporated into modern academic research. He suggested that these works be made accessible in university libraries to foster both intellectual capacity and a deeper sense of national pride among the younger generation.

“India has been a repository of knowledge since ancient times. Scholars and scientists must integrate these traditions into learning so that students develop both intellect and love for the nation,” the Governor said.

In his review, Bagde assessed the university’s academic structure, enrollment figures, scholarship schemes, examination system, financial status, staff vacancies, and land use, issuing necessary administrative directions. He also highlighted the need for outreach beyond mere cleanliness drives, advocating for holistic village development initiatives.

He called on universities to engage students, retired teachers, and officials in primary school education through storytelling and motivational tales,measures that could strengthen grassroots foundations and cultivate responsible citizens in line with the National Education Policy.

The Governor’s call comes at a time when much of India’s youth appears enamored with Western models of knowledge, often overlooking the profound intellectual treasures within their own heritage. Bagde’s message is a gentle reminder that embracing India’s ancient wisdom could complement modern education, creating a generation that is not only globally competent but also deeply rooted in its cultural and intellectual legacy.
