Rajasthan has commissioned its largest solar power plant under the Pradhan Mantri KUSUM Scheme at Tala (Kunda ki Dhani) in Jaipur district, strengthening its push towards decentralised renewable energy for agriculture.

The 4.9 MW plant , developed in Dekla village, is connected to the 33 kV substation at Tala under the Kunda ki Dhani power sub-division of Jaipur Discom (North). Spread over nearly 24 bighas of land , the facility will supply daytime electricity to 437 farmers , ensuring reliable power for irrigation and reducing dependence on conventional sources.

Set up under Component-C of the PM-KUSUM scheme, the project is the highest-capacity installation in Rajasthan under the programme so far. The component focuses on solarising existing grid-connected agricultural pumps, enabling farmers to utilise solar energy and potentially feed surplus electricity back into the grid.

The plant is expected to generate around 25,000 units of electricity per day , improving power availability during peak agricultural hours. Officials said the commissioning marks a key step in enhancing rural power infrastructure and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Across the state, 1,819 solar plants with a combined capacity of 4,027 MW have been installed under Components A and C of the scheme, reflecting Rajasthan’s continued emphasis on clean energy adoption.

Prior to this, the largest installation under the scheme in the state was a 4.84 MW plant under Ajmer Discom , which now ranks as the second-largest.

Both the top two installations are located in Rajasthan, underlining the state’s leadership in implementing the PM-KUSUM scheme and expanding solar-powered solutions for the agriculture sector.
