Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was safe after a minor collision involving vehicles in his convoy on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, highlighting the importance of safe driving practices and coordination during high-profile road movements.

The incident occurred around 10.15 am when a private vehicle at the front of the convoy, belonging to local Congress leaders, suddenly applied the brakes for an unspecified reason. Vehicles travelling behind it collided with one another, according to a police officer. No major injuries were reported, and the convoy soon resumed its journey towards Sultanpur.

Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was travelling to attend a hearing in a criminal defamation case concerning alleged remarks about Amit Shah, who was the BJP president at the time. The remarks were made during a rally in Bengaluru ahead of the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections.

The incident underscores the importance of maintaining adequate distances between vehicles, avoiding sudden braking wherever possible and ensuring effective communication among convoy drivers. At expressway speeds, even a brief delay in reacting to a vehicle stopping unexpectedly can trigger multiple collisions.

Although the collision involving Gandhi’s convoy was reported to be minor, it serves as a reminder that road safety must remain a priority even during tightly coordinated security movements.
