Rahul Gandhi in Raebareli Warns “Economic Storm Is Coming,” Targets BJP-RSS in Address
Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said an “economic storm is coming” , warning of rising prices and worsening economic conditions, while addressing the Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at the event held in memory of revolutionary Veera Pasi , he said the Constitution under attack reflects a deeper crisis affecting India’s democratic and institutional framework. He alleged that the ideological foundations of leaders like Dr B R Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi are not being properly protected.
He said, “While listening to other speakers, I felt that we remember Veera Pasi and Dr Ambedkar, but the ideology they stood for is not being protected properly because, in front of our eyes, an attack is being made on the Constitution.”
Gandhi said the Constitution is not just a legal document but represents India’s core values of equality and justice. “The Constitution is not an ordinary document,” he said, adding that it reflects the voices of Ambedkar, Gandhi, Narayana Guru, Basavanna, Buddha, Guru Nanak and Kabir.
He stressed that symbolic respect is not enough, stating, “Those who bow before Ambedkar’s statue forget his ideology. They do not protect it.” He also said, “You are clapping now, but when the Constitution is torn apart, you remain silent,” urging people to actively defend constitutional values.
Gandhi added, “It says India belongs to everyone, not to any caste, individual, billionaire or organisation,” highlighting equality as a constitutional principle.
He warned of worsening economic conditions, saying, “In the coming months, inflation will rise sharply. Prices of petrol, diesel, gas, food grains, everything will increase,” describing it as part of a broader economic pressure situation .
He also criticised the BJP-RSS combine , alleging continuous attacks on constitutional values and democratic institutions. Expanded allegations from his speech included concerns over MNREGA weakening , absence of a caste census, and policy decisions favouring select industrial groups. He also raised concerns about electoral roll deletions , suggesting risks to voting rights and democratic participation.
BJP, reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in which he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged contradictions in governance messaging, including appeals to reduce consumption and foreign travel while the Prime Minister himself undertook overseas visits, said the comments reflect what it described as his “ anarchic mindset .”
Gandhi, in his address, also said that the future “Veera Pasis, Ambedkars and Gandhis” will emerge from ordinary citizens, adding, “They will not come from the sky,” while calling for a collective defence of equality, justice and the Constitution.
The BJP rejected his criticism, defended the Prime Minister’s foreign engagements as part of India’s diplomatic outreach, and accused Gandhi of repeatedly using “irresponsible language” in political discourse.
