Rahul Gandhi Assures Support to Family of Rajasthan NEET Aspirant Who Died by Suicide
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke with the family of a Rajasthan NEET aspirant who allegedly died by suicide after the medical entrance examination was cancelled over the paper leak controversy, party leaders said on Saturday.
The student, identified as Pradeep Meghwal , was reportedly under severe emotional distress following the cancellation of the examination. The phone conversation between Gandhi and the bereaved family was facilitated late Friday night by National Students' Union of India president Vinod Jakhar.
During the interaction, Gandhi conveyed his condolences and assured the family that they would receive support and justice. According to party sources, the family informed him that they had taken a loan of nearly Rs 11 lakh to fund their son’s education despite facing financial hardship.
Gandhi reportedly assured the family that assistance would be extended at every stage during the difficult period.
In a statement shared on X, the NSUI announced financial assistance of Rs 11 lakh to Pradeep Meghwal’s family. “No one can compensate for what the family has lost,” the student body said.
The organisation also intensified its criticism of the alleged NEET paper leak scandal , claiming the controversy had devastated the lives of hardworking students and families across the country. The NSUI further accused the Centre of failing to adequately respond to the concerns raised by affected students and parents.
The student wing also questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not sought the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the examination process.
The NEET paper leak issue has triggered nationwide protests and political sparring, with opposition parties demanding accountability and reforms to ensure transparency in competitive examinations.
