Raghav Chadha Gets Key Rajya Sabha Role, Named Head of Petitions Committee

After his recent political shift from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has been appointed chairman of the influential Committee on Petitions of the Upper House, marking a significant development in his parliamentary journey.

The announcement came through an official notification issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat following the reconstitution of the committee by Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan . The newly formed panel came into effect from May 20 , with Chadha being chosen to lead the committee , a role seen as important in strengthening communication between citizens and Parliament.

The Committee on Petitions plays a crucial role in the parliamentary system by examining public grievances and petitions submitted by citizens on matters of governance, legislation and public interest. The panel acts as a bridge between the public and lawmakers, giving ordinary citizens an institutional mechanism to raise concerns before Parliament.

Apart from Chadha, the committee includes members such as Harsh Mahajan, Gulam Ali, Shambhu Sharan Patel, Mayankkumar Nayak, Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha, Jebi Mather Hisham, Subhasish Khuntia, Rwngwra Narzary and Sandosh Kumar P . The reconstitution reflects the Upper House’s periodic reshuffling of parliamentary panels that oversee various legislative and administrative matters.

Political observers see Chadha’s appointment as notable, especially after his transition from the opposition benches to the ruling party fold.
