Andhra Pradesh’s youth have crossed another historic milestone in the emerging technology sector. In the “Advanced Quantum Skilling” course jointly conducted by IIT Madras and IBM Research on the NPTEL platform , more than 50,000 students from the state have registered an achievement that has drawn nationwide attention . Expressing happiness over the growing technological interest among the youth, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu lauded their enthusiasm.

Dawn of a Technological Revolution

The Chief Minister responded on X (formerly Twitter) , appreciating the commitment of Andhra Pradesh’s youth to acquiring globally competitive skills.

“This response itself reflects our youth’s dedication to future technologies. It strengthens our resolve to train one lakh highly skilled quantum professionals ,” he stated. He further expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh will be developed as a global hub for quantum research and innovation .

Felicitation for Medal Winners

The Chief Minister announced that students who demonstrated exceptional talent and secured Gold and Silver Medals in the course would be personally felicitated . He expressed hope that recognizing and encouraging merit would inspire more students to pursue deep-tech domains .

Focus on Deep-Tech Growth

The government reiterated that achieving technology-driven economic growth is its priority and that it is giving special emphasis to deep-tech fields such as quantum technology . Through the NPTEL platform jointly run by IITs and IISc , the state aims to make more international-standard courses accessible to its students. Officials revealed plans to partner with more global technology companies , positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leader in India’s deep-tech transformation .

What is NPTEL?

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a premier online education platform under the Ministry of Education, Government of India , jointly managed by IITs and IISc . Its primary objective is to provide high-quality technical education , either free or at minimal cost, through leading professors—even to students who could not study at IITs. This enables students from remote rural areas to acquire world-class skills from home .

What Makes the Quantum Course Special?

While conventional computers operate using bits (0 or 1) , quantum computers work far more efficiently. This course explains how computers function based on quantum physics , simplifying complex concepts such as superposition and entanglement . Beyond theory, students are trained in writing programs for these advanced systems, known as quantum algorithms . As quantum computers are expected to replace conventional systems in the future, the course holds immense value .

Who Can Benefit? What About Job Opportunities?

The course is useful not only for engineering students , but for anyone with an interest in science . Globally, there is strong demand for professionals skilled in quantum technology across sectors such as cybersecurity, banking and finance, healthcare (drug discovery), defense, and space research . Students who complete the course receive a certificate directly from IIT Madras–NPTEL , while top performers are awarded Gold and Silver Medals , providing a significant boost to their professional careers.
