Purandeswari Appeals for Central Aid for Rajamahendravaram Sports Complex
Rajamahendravaram Member of Parliament and Andhra Pradesh BJP president Daggubati Purandeswari has urged the Union government to release ₹14 crore for the construction of Arena–3 , the final phase of the proposed sports complex at V.L. Puram .
During a meeting in New Delhi with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya , she highlighted the need to complete the project to provide international-standard facilities for young athletes in the region.
The sports complex is being developed in three phases . The Andhra Pradesh government has already sanctioned ₹28 crore for Arena–1, an indoor stadium. Arena–2 (60m x 40m) has received ₹13.76 crore under the Centre’s Khelo India programme. Officials believe that once these phases are completed, the city will witness a major boost in sports infrastructure .
The proposed Arena–3 will include modern facilities for basketball, volleyball, martial arts, wrestling, boxing and gymnastics, creating opportunities for youth to compete at state and national levels .
Purandeswari said the project would significantly benefit the region, particularly in view of the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu , and help position Rajamahendravaram as a key sports hub in Andhra Pradesh.
