In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Punjab Police on Thursday uncovered an ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module, arresting two individuals in a coordinated operation across Amritsar Rural and Gurdaspur districts. The operation was conducted jointly by District Police, SSOC-Amritsar, and Central Agencies.

Police recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives, signaling plans for high-impact attacks aimed at disturbing public peace. The haul included five hand grenades, two special detonators, an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 1 kg packed with nails, a PTT timer with coder and decoder, a 9V battery, and a Baofeng walkie-talkie with cable and trigger mechanism .

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav described the arrests as a “major breakthrough,” adding that the terror module was operated under the direction of a foreign-based handler . An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, and further investigations are underway to trace foreign links and local support networks.

“The recovered materials clearly indicate preparations for attacks aimed at causing mass casualties and public unrest,” Yadav said. Authorities emphasized that this operation underscores the ongoing threat from cross-border terrorist networks operating in the region.

Punjab Police continue to investigate the module’s connections, including forward and backward linkages , to dismantle the network entirely and prevent potential attacks.
