Gurdaspur police have arrested three accused in connection with a grenade-hurling incident that took place near Geeta Bhawan Road last month, officials said on Sunday. The arrests were carried out by the district police in coordination with the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police.

According to police, two unidentified youths had thrown a hand grenade outside a shop on April 27. The device did not explode as its safety pin remained intact , preventing a potential blast in the crowded area.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the case was solved using CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and human intelligence inputs . During the investigation, police also recovered another live hand grenade from the residence of one of the accused.

Preliminary findings suggest the accused were acting under instructions from a foreign-based handler . Police said they had received two grenades from the handler to execute the attack.

An FIR has been registered at the City Police Station in Gurdaspur under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosive Substances Act .

Officials said the investigation is continuing to uncover forward and backward linkages , including possible foreign connections and local support networks .

Authorities noted that while the incident created panic in the area , no injuries or damage occurred due to the grenade failing to detonate.
