In a major counter-terror operation, Punjab Police on Saturday claimed to have dismantled an ISI-sponsored terror and arms smuggling module with the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a cache of sophisticated weapons.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Gursevak Singh alias Suraj , a resident of Attari, and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit , a resident of Chheharta. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams from the Gharinda police station intercepted the duo near Muhawa village in Amritsar district.

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav , the operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle , three 9mm Glock pistols , two magazines, and 36 live cartridges . He said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in contact with foreign-based handlers through social media platforms , pointing to cross-border coordination.

Police officials said the module was allegedly engaged in arms smuggling, radicalisation activities, and the dissemination of anti-India narratives , particularly targeting security forces. The weapon consignment is believed to have been routed through Pakistan and intended for carrying out terrorist attacks in Punjab.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar Rural, Suhail Qasim Mir confirmed that the arrests were made during a targeted operation based on actionable intelligence.

Authorities are now probing the case to establish forward and backward linkages to dismantle the wider network and identify other operatives involved. Officials said further arrests and recoveries are possible as the investigation progresses.

Security agencies have heightened vigilance in border areas amid concerns over continued attempts by hostile elements to revive militancy in the region.
