Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Drug Racket, Seize 20 Kg Heroin in Amritsar

In a significant blow to cross-border narcotics smuggling, the Punjab Police have dismantled an organised drug trafficking network operating in the border district of Amritsar, arresting one alleged operative and recovering 20 kilograms of heroin.

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the operation exposed a well-coordinated smuggling racket with links to a foreign-based handler believed to be associated with cross-border drug syndicates. Sharing details of the operation, the DGP said the arrested accused had been tasked with receiving heroin consignments near the international border before distributing them to various recipients across Punjab.

The seizure is being viewed as another major success in the state's ongoing efforts to curb the flow of narcotics from across the border and dismantle organised criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.

Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigators are now working to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network to identify additional members, financiers, suppliers, and distribution channels connected to the operation.

Officials said the investigation remains active, with efforts focused on uncovering the full extent of the cross-border nexus and taking action against all those involved. The latest seizure underscores Punjab Police's continued crackdown on narcotics trafficking and its attempts to disrupt organised crime networks operating along the international border.

Authorities have indicated that further arrests and recoveries may follow as the investigation progresses and more leads emerge from the interrogation of the accused.
