
Punjab Police ASI Shot Dead by Bike-Borne Assailants in Amritsar
A Punjab Police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants near Hamja village in the Majitha assembly constituency of Amritsar district on Sunday, police officials said.
The deceased officer, identified as ASI Joga Singh , was reportedly on his way to duty on a scooter and was in uniform when the attack took place near the Fatehgarh Churian-Majitha road.
According to police, locals spotted the body of the ASI lying by the roadside with a gunshot injury and alerted authorities. The attackers fled the scene immediately after carrying out the shooting.
Joga Singh was a resident of Ganike Bangarh village , police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural), Suhail Mir Qasim , said police received information about the incident early Sunday morning. A team led by the Station House Officer of Majitha police station rushed to the spot, while a forensic team examined the crime scene for evidence.
“The body was later shifted to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination,” the SSP said.
Police officials added that CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned to identify and trace the assailants.
“We are exploring all angles, including personal enmity, road rage, or any other possible motive ,” Qasim said after visiting the spot where the body was recovered.
An investigation into the killing is underway.
