Punjab on Alert After Twin Explosion Incidents Hours Apart Spark Security Concerns
Punjab has been placed on high alert after two separate explosion-like incidents were reported within hours in Jalandhar and Amritsar , both near sensitive security installations, triggering a swift multi-agency investigation.
In the first incident, a scooter parked near BSF Chowk in Jalandhar , close to the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters, suddenly caught fire around 8 pm on Tuesday. The sudden blaze was accompanied by a loud sound, according to locals, leading to panic in the area. Police immediately cordoned off the spot and deployed forensic teams, a dog squad, and a bomb disposal unit to examine the scene.
While initial police assessment described it as a vehicle catching fire, investigators are now examining all possibilities, including whether an explosive substance was involved , after collecting samples from the site. Authorities have not ruled out any angle at this stage. The scooter rider, a young delivery worker, is cooperating with the probe.
Hours later, a second incident occurred in Khasa area of Amritsar , near an Army cantonment boundary. Police said residents heard a loud explosion-like sound late at night after an unidentified object was allegedly thrown towards a wall, triggering a blast-like reaction. No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted immediate response from Army personnel, police, and forensic experts .
Preliminary findings suggest the Amritsar incident may have been caused by an external object impact , though the exact nature of the material and mechanism is still under investigation.
The back to back incidents in two strategically sensitive border locations have raised concern among security agencies, leading to intensified coordination between state police, central forces, and Army officials . Surveillance has been stepped up across key installations in the region.
Opposition parties have raised questions over law and order in the state, while authorities have urged restraint, stating that it is too early to link the two incidents or conclude any motive.
Investigations in both cases are ongoing, with forensic analysis expected to provide clearer answers in the coming days.
