Punjab Man Arrested in Chhattisgarh Over Alleged ISI Links, Security Probe Intensifies
A 23-year-old Punjab man has been arrested in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district for allegedly maintaining links with operatives connected to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and sharing sensitive information, police said on Sunday.
The accused, Sevak Singh from Tarn Taran district, was detained during a tenant verification drive in Akaltara town. He was staying in a rented accommodation near Minimata Chowk when police found his presence suspicious during routine checks.
According to Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Pandey, an examination of Singh's mobile phone allegedly revealed WhatsApp chats, video call records, call recordings and other digital evidence suggesting communication with individuals suspected of having ties to Pakistan-based ISI networks.
Investigators suspect that Singh may have shared information related to sensitive locations, prominent persons, vehicles and other details with foreign contacts. However, officials said the authenticity and extent of the alleged information sharing are still being verified.
Police have registered a case at Akaltara police station and sent the accused's mobile phone for forensic examination . Authorities are analysing digital evidence and contact networks to determine the scope of the alleged activities.
Officials further said that discussions related to the possible cross-border supply of weapons surfaced during the investigation, though these claims remain under verification.
The arrest has raised security concerns, with investigators working to identify the accused's contacts, possible associates and any links to a broader network. Singh was produced before a court after his arrest, and the investigation is continuing.
The allegations are based on police claims and remain subject to investigation and judicial scrutiny.
