The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to Punjab-based YouTuber Jasbir Singh, who was arrested in 2025 on allegations of spying for Pakistan’s ISI , with the court citing absence of corroborative evidence and lack of any classified material in the case record.

Justice Vinod S. Bhardwaj observed that there were arguable issues regarding the offence , and noted that investigators had not produced any material showing direct or indirect communication with Pakistani handlers or transmission of sensitive information at this stage.

The court also highlighted that there was no recovery of incriminating digital evidence , including chats, messages, or communication linking the accused to any Pakistani intelligence operative.

Jasbir Singh, a resident of Rupnagar, was arrested on June 3, 2025, and booked under provisions of the Official Secrets Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He had already spent around 10 months in custody before being granted bail.

Police had earlier alleged that he was part of a Pakistan-linked espionage network and maintained contact with an ISI operative identified as Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, along with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a former Pakistan High Commission official expelled from India on espionage concerns. Investigators had also claimed he was in contact with another arrested influencer and had visited Pakistan multiple times.

According to police claims during the investigation, Jasbir Singh had allegedly made three visits to Pakistan between 2020 and 2024 , attended events at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, and was linked to multiple Pakistani contacts found on his devices. It was also alleged that forensic examination revealed a large number of Pakistan-based contacts, though these claims were not substantiated in court at the bail stage.

Investigators had further alleged that he may have shared information related to Indian Army movements and sensitive locations , including photographs of strategic infrastructure. However, the court noted that no material evidence was presented to establish that such data was classified or not already publicly accessible.

The court also recorded that his YouTube channel “Jaan Mahal” , which had over a million subscribers, primarily featured travel and vlog-style content, including visits to various countries. It observed that the uploaded videos largely depicted publicly accessible locations and did not contain any restricted or confidential material.

Significantly, the court took into account his clean antecedents , lack of prior criminal record, and the absence of any verified evidence of espionage-related activity.
