The investigation into the Pune hooch tragedy has intensified further, with the Crime Investigation Department (CID) expanding its probe into a suspected online methanol procurement and distribution network linked to the spurious liquor case that has so far claimed 15 lives in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Officials confirmed that nine persons have been arrested , including key members of the supply chain allegedly involved in mixing methanol with country-made liquor and distributing it across multiple localities. The CID is now mapping the broader network to identify additional suppliers and financial transactions linked to the racket.

Investigators said a key focus of the probe is the online sourcing of industrial methanol , which is suspected to have been purchased and diverted for illegal liquor production. Forensic analysis is underway to determine the exact composition of seized samples and trace contamination points in the supply chain.

The deaths, reported mainly from Phugewadi in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Hadapsar in Pune , have also prompted investigators to examine whether the toxic batch was distributed through multiple informal retail points over a short time span, leading to clustered fatalities.

Officials said the case is now being treated as part of a larger organised illicit liquor network , with enforcement agencies also examining possible lapses that allowed repeated movement of illegal alcohol without detection.

Meanwhile, the earlier suspension of 22 police and excise personnel remains in force, with departmental inquiries continuing into alleged negligence in curbing illegal liquor activity in sensitive pockets.

Authorities have tightened surveillance in vulnerable areas to prevent further circulation of spurious alcohol, while medical teams continue to monitor survivors affected by suspected methanol poisoning .

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reiterated that strict action will be taken against all those involved, and the entire illegal supply ecosystem will be dismantled.
