Public opinion takes Center stage in Andhra Pradesh district reorganization

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has issued important directives regarding the state’s ongoing district reorganization process, emphasizing that public feedback should guide final decisions. Officials have been instructed to consider local requirements and make minor adjustments where necessary before moving forward.

During a high-level review meeting at the Camp Office in Velagapudi with ministers and senior officials, the Chief Minister finalized key decisions. The government plans to release the final notification on district reorganization on December 31.

Following the preliminary notification issued on November 27, the state received around 927 objections and suggestions from citizens. After a thorough review, the Chief Minister directed changes that reflect public sentiment. For instance, in Nellore district, five mandals from Gudur constituency will remain part of Nellore district, respecting local preferences.

In Anakapalli district, a new revenue division will be set up with Addaroad Junction as its headquarters, replacing the earlier plan of Nakkapalli, while Munagapaka will remain in Anakapalli Division. Minor geographical adjustments were also approved to improve administrative efficiency.

Key proposals in Rayalaseema include merging Railwe Koduru into Tirupati district, Rayachoti into Madanapalle district, and Rajampet, Siddavatam, and Ontimitta into Kadapa district. Plans were also discussed to split the large Adoni area into two mandals. The previously proposed Polavaram district centered around Rampachodavaram will remain unchanged as per the preliminary notification.

Other changes include shifting Nandigam mandal in Srikakulam district to Tekkal Division and Samarakota in Kakinada district to Peddapuram Division. In Prakasam district, several mandals from Addanki and Kanigiri Divisions will be moved to Kandukur Division, while revenue division boundaries have also been revised in Chittoor and Sri Sathya Sai districts. A new revenue division will be created in Madakasira.

The review meeting was attended by ministers Anagani Satya Prasad, Narayana, and Anita, along with senior revenue officials, who briefed the Chief Minister on the feasibility of the proposed changes.
