
Psychology student found dead at home in Koyilandy, Police confirm suicide
In a tragic incident, a 21-year-old psychology student was found hanging in a room of her house near Koyilandy on Tuesday evening, police said on Wednesday.
According to officials of the Koyilandy police station, the post-mortem examination confirmed that the death was a case of suicide . However, the exact reason behind the young woman taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
The victim was a third-year undergraduate student of psychology at a local college. Police said she returned home from college around 6 pm and was later found hanging in her room by family members, who immediately alerted authorities.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a detailed investigation into the matter,” a police officer said. Statements from family members, friends and college authorities are being recorded as part of the probe.
College professors told investigators that the student appeared disturbed and unusually quiet on the day of the incident. No suicide note has been recovered so far, the police added.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the immense academic and emotional pressure faced by students in recent times. Mental health experts have repeatedly warned about rising stress levels due to academic expectations, fear of failure, family pressures and social isolation among young adults.
