Protect the Sanctity of the House, Says Speaker Ayyannapatrudu
Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu strongly condemned the conduct of YSRCP members during Governor S. Abdul Nazeer’s address, stating that behaviour which undermines the dignity of the Legislature weakens public trust in democratic institutions.
Speaking in the House on Thursday during the Budget Session , the Speaker expressed deep anguish over the incidents that took place on Wednesday. He objected to repeated interruptions during the Governor’s speech, slogan-shouting, and the tearing of official documents by Opposition members.
Ayyannapatrudu said that while public representatives may hold differing views, no one has the right to lower the prestige of the Assembly in the eyes of the people. He reminded members that protecting democratic values and upholding the sanctity of legislative institutions is the responsibility of every elected representative.
The Speaker also expressed concern that the disruptions occurred in the presence of school students who had come to the Assembly gallery to observe the proceedings. He questioned the message such incidents would send to young minds and warned that negative impressions about democratic institutions could have lasting consequences.
“When students are invited to understand the democratic system , is this the example we should set?” he asked, cautioning that loss of decorum before future citizens sends the wrong signal about governance and public life.
Calling for introspection , the Speaker advised YSRCP members to reflect on their conduct, particularly those holding responsible positions. He asserted that actions bringing disrepute to the House cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The Speaker’s remarks come in the backdrop of the recent walkout led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy earlier this week.
