Professor Grabs Student’s Collar on Stage at Nirma University Event, NSUI Demands Probe

A video purportedly showing a professor of Nirma University grabbing a student by the collar during a college event has sparked controversy, with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) demanding an apology and an inquiry into the incident.

The alleged incident took place during ‘Technofora 2026’, a three-day event organised by students of the university’s Institute of Technology from September 18 to 20.

According to the video circulating on social media, the incident occurred during a stand-up comedy show featuring comedian Rajat Sood. The footage purportedly shows a professor calling a student from the audience onto the stage and grabbing him by the collar while speaking to him.

It has been claimed that the student had shouted, “Jaldi kar, Panvel nikalna hai,” a dialogue associated with a Bollywood film, while the professor was speaking on stage. The remark allegedly angered the professor.

In the video, the professor is heard warning the student against insulting faculty members and saying, “I can go to any extent. The day you dare to insult any faculty member of the Nirma University campus, you are gone forever.”

The authenticity and complete context of the video could not be independently verified.

NSUI national coordinator Bhavik Solanki criticised the alleged conduct and claimed that the student had been subjected to inappropriate behaviour. He demanded that the professor apologise to the student and called for an inquiry into the incident.

Solanki also said that the student organisation would organise a protest if its demands were not addressed.

Nirma University was contacted for its response to the allegations, but the private university did not respond to an email seeking comment.

The incident has drawn attention to questions surrounding student-faculty conduct and disciplinary practices during university events.
