Prof. Yogesh Singh assumes Additional Charge as AICTE Chairman

Prof. Yogesh Singh, the Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Delhi (DU), has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The appointment comes following the completion of the term of the previous AICTE chairman, Prof. T. G. Sitharam, on December 20, 2025. Prof. Singh will hold this charge until a new full-time chairman is appointed or further orders from the Ministry of Education.

Prof. Yogesh Singh, an experienced academic administrator, has held several prestigious positions across India’s higher education landscape. Prior to his current tenure at DU, he served as Vice‑Chancellor of Delhi Technological University (2015–2021), Director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi, and Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda (2011–2014). He has also served as Chairperson of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and held the role of Director, School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in Delhi.

The outgoing AICTE Chairman, Prof. T. G. Sitharam, is a noted civil engineer and academician who has served as Director of IIT Guwahati and professor at IISc Bangalore. He completed his term on December 20, 2025, paving the way for Prof. Singh to take over the additional responsibilities.

AICTE, a statutory body under the Ministry of Education, is responsible for coordinating, planning, and maintaining standards of technical education in India, covering engineering, technology, management, and other professional programs. The chairman plays a pivotal role in overseeing policies, approvals, and reforms for technical institutions across the country.

With Prof. Singh now at the helm, AICTE continues its mission of ensuring quality and accessibility in technical education, while also preparing to appoint a permanent chairman in the near future.
