A sensational knock from Priyansh Arya guided Punjab Kings to a commanding 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Delhi batter smashed a breathtaking 93 off 37 balls , continuing to cement his reputation as one of India’s most promising T20 talents. He found a perfect ally in Australia’s rising star Cooper Connolly , who struck an elegant 87 off 45 balls .

The duo put on a game-changing 182-run partnership off just 80 deliveries , hammering 16 sixes and 12 fours between them, as Punjab Kings piled up a daunting 254/7 in 20 overs .

Punjab had a steady start, scoring 63/1 in the Powerplay, but the real acceleration came in the middle overs, where they added 66 runs between overs 7 and 11. Priyansh’s innings stood out for its sheer power and composure, as he dispatched both pace and short-pitched deliveries with ease, showing minimal footwork but tremendous bat speed.

Connolly, in contrast, began cautiously, reaching his fifty in 35 balls before shifting gears dramatically. His lofted drives and pull shots reflected his class, drawing comparisons that would please coach Ricky Ponting .

A key turning point came when Connolly survived a close lbw appeal off Mohsin Khan , with LSG opting against a review. Replays later indicated he would have been out, a missed opportunity that proved costly as momentum slipped away.

In response, Lucknow Super Giants got off to a decent start, scoring 61 runs in the Powerplay, but failed to maintain the required tempo. Captain Rishabh Pant (43 off 23) and Mitchell Marsh (40 off 28) attempted to keep the chase alive, but their efforts were overshadowed by Punjab’s earlier onslaught.

Vyshak Vijaykumar stood out with disciplined bowling (1/30), effectively mixing his pace to dismiss both Pant and Marsh, halting LSG’s progress.

LSG’s bowling unit struggled throughout, conceding several expensive overs. Aiden Markram endured a difficult outing, conceding five sixes in a single over. The lone bright spot was Prince Yadav , who returned impressive figures of 2/25, dismissing both set batters in quick succession.

Despite those breakthroughs, the target proved too steep as LSG finished at 200/5 in 20 overs . Even as team owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen reacting from the stands, the outcome was never in doubt.

With this emphatic win, Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer , continue to build momentum and look determined to go one better than their runner-up finish in IPL 2025 .
