Priyanka Chopra Reveals New Details About SS Rajamouli's Varanasi
Priyanka Chopra is slowly lifting the curtain on SS Rajamouli's Varanasi , and every new detail is increasing the excitement around the much awaited Mahesh Babu starrer . During her appearance on the Hey Jonas podcast, the global star shared fresh insights about the ambitious Telugu film while carefully avoiding major spoilers.
Talking about Varanasi , Priyanka revealed that she has already been working on the project for nearly 14 months . She explained that the long production schedule comes from Rajamouli's reputation for spending extensive time crafting every detail of his films, just like he did with his previous global blockbuster RRR .
Calling the film an "epic adventure around the world and in time," Priyanka said Rajamouli approached her for the project and described the scale of the movie as something unlike anything she has experienced before. While she refused to reveal the storyline, she teased that audiences can expect some massive action moments, joking that she performs several "amazing slow motion jumps" in the film.
The revelation has given fans their biggest clue yet about the film's genre. Earlier details about Varanasi had already suggested that the movie blends action adventure, time travel elements, and Indian mythology , making it one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema.
The film marks a major collaboration between SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu , bringing together two of the biggest names in Telugu cinema for the first time. Mahesh Babu plays the lead role, while Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays the antagonist.
For Priyanka, Varanasi is also a major comeback to Indian cinema after an extended gap. The actress has previously spoken about the challenges of returning to Telugu cinema, including learning dialogues phonetically and adapting to Rajamouli's detailed filmmaking process.
Written by veteran writer Vijayendra Prasad , the film reunites Rajamouli with Oscar winning composer M.M. Keeravaani , continuing their successful creative partnership from films like Baahubali and RRR . The project is being produced by KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya on a reported budget of over ₹1,200 crore , placing it among India's most expensive films ever made.
